Have you always dreamed of becoming a car tuner? Are you a dealer or repairs professional looking to expand your skills? In that case, choosing the right reprogramming Tool is a must! If you’re reading this article, chances are that you’re interested in the AutoTuner reprogramming solution and may even be thinking of buying it...
AutoTuner: A complete, versatile solution
The AutoTuner engine reprogramming Tool offers numerous free updates and quick commercial and technical support in over ten languages. We provide you with the necessary read and write access to the data of numerous ECUs and gearboxes. However, we don’t modify the electronic parameters of the ECU to increase the engine’s power and torque, for example.
Our reading Tool requires specialised knowledge to modify the engine mapping data using editing software (e.g. EVC WinOLS). If you cannot do this yourself, you can hire a specialist (commonly known as a tuning file service) who will do it for a fee.
Choosing between the Master and Slave Tools
When you start out in the field of engine reprogramming, it’s crucial to choose the Tool that best matches your expectations and skills. At AutoTuner, it’s a simple decision because there are only two types of Tool: the Master and the Slave.
In both cases, the package is identical and there is no annual fee – and don’t forget that we offer free updates regularly!
What’s the best fit for you?
The Master version requires users to have the necessary skills to modify the engine calibration data themselves, but you can also contact a specialist to do it for you. The Master Tool reads the vehicle’s data in clear text, i.e. without compression, encryption or locking. This means that anyone can modify the data, so you are free to choose a top professional to apply the appropriate changes to your engine calibration data or do it yourself.
On the other hand, if you opt for the cheaper Slave version, you will need to specify the Master (i.e. “the file provider”) to which your Slave Tool will be linked. You won’t be able to modify the calibration data yourself, nor will you be able to entrust it to a preparer of your choice. The data will be compressed and encrypted, and only the selected Master will be able to open the files and modify the data.
The advantages and disadvantages of a Slave Tool
Advantages of the “Slave”:
- It is cheaper than the Master.
- File providers often offer discounted or cheaper rates to customers using a Slave.
- You generally benefit from better service because you are directly connected to the brand or to the Master tuner community.
Disadvantages of the “Slave”:
- You cannot modify the engine calibration data yourself.
- You are linked to your Master and have to buy your files from them.
- Without the agreement of your current Master, you cannot switch Masters or upgrade your Tool from Slave to Master.
Although Master-Slave relationships are usually based on trust, disagreements can occur, making for a difficult separation. That’s why it’s essential to choose your Master preparer wisely.
