2013

Starting line.

In 2013, as a Belgian tuning company called ShifTech Engineering, we were (really) frustrated by the lack of support for certain ECU types, notably the PCR2.1 and MEVDC17 of BMW F-series. And with a fast-growing customer waiting list, we began to worry about the future of chiptuning.

OBD connexion inside a car

2014

First tool.

We had to act. It was in our DNA from the start. Unable to access the ECU data of the latest BMW F-series, we designed an innovative box, the ECUx, which interacted with vehicle data and allowed reprogramming by OBD via the PT-CAN.

Let's be honest, we did not achieve the success we expected. But this product was a crucial step in our exploration of technologies, it allowed us to understand the functioning of the CAN bus and start in electronic printed circuit board production.

2015

BSL flashing.

In 2015, we tried to create a tool that matched our vision: we were tuners. That is why we worked on a development of an intuitive interface, ultra-fast BSL reading (boot mode), and much more.

After a year of hard work and dedication, we had a first Proof of Concept (POC) and started flashing in BSL. The only downside? In addition to a few bugs, our product did not calculate checksums automatically, forcing us to calculate them manually for each operation.

AutoTuner first tool

2016

Welcome to the world, AutoTuner.

The year 2016 allowed us to release an updated version of our tool, which, until that moment, has been used exclusively internally. Yes, it had a few flaws (who doesn't?), and we offered it several sub-revisions. Originally, the tool was to be named "eflasher" in reference to the first letter of our ECUx module. However, during electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, the name "AutoTuner" was chosen. Sometimes the second idea is the right one.

AutoTuner case and tool

2017

First sales for AutoTuner.

In March 2017, we started selling our AutoTuner tool. It had the advantage of combining OBD (with still few protocols) and BOOT in a single tool. And that was new.

At that time, to reprogram the latest MEVDC17 ECUs, most of our competitors chose an additional password reading module, which made their tools relatively expensive and difficult to use.

End of 2017

The official release.

At its launch in August 2017, the AutoTuner tool needed to prove that it was at the forefront of innovation. We took advantage of this event to present an easy and intuitive solution, highlighting our technical expertise by introducing highly anticipated exclusive protocols such as the SID307 and SID310 for Mercedes and Renault, as well as the SID807 Evo for Volvo and the SID211 for Ford – all of which were absent from our competitors' catalogs.

Despite numerous attempts by our competitors to copy us, we have continued to innovate. In December, we finally (and proudly) made it possible to reprogram the BMW F-series via OBD CAN flashing. That's how the world got to love AutoTuner.

Bench AutoTuner tool

2018

An exceptional year.

Trust us, the year 2018 was e-x-c-e-p-t-i-o-n-a-l, confirming our position in the market and proving that our R&D team, thanks to their methodology, knew how to make the difference. After the BMW E-series in OBD, the spotlight turned to the Volvo VEA, a complex protocol for which we had exclusivity for a few months.

We continued to release exclusive updates, for example the arrival of the G-series equipped with Bosch MG1 computers, the first Ford Bosch MG1s and the EDC17C84 in OBD. An update to remember? The exclusivity of MEDC17 Mercedes OBD solution, followed by the Bosch MEDC17 bench protocol! (We still get chills.)

AutoTuner bench protocole and laptop

2019

Exclusive arrival of Bench MDG1.

In addition to the integration of the PCR2.1 protocol via OBD and numerous other updates, the year 2019 was marked by the exclusive introduction of the Bench MDG1 protocol. This technological advancement offered impressive compatibility with the latest ECUs, thereby consolidating our position as a leader in R&D.

This exclusivity captured the attention of chiptuning professionals worldwide, propelling AutoTuner to the forefront of the international stage. It was undoubtedly that year that AutoTuner truly took off, forging a solid reputation in the chiptuning and engine repair industry.

2020

Datalogging & Bench.

But now you know that at Autotuner, we're all about obstacles. So in 2020, we continued our efforts by developing solutions for older protocols, while introducing new protocols such as VD56 and an exclusive solution for reprogramming the ZF8 VAG (AL552) to OBD.

Yet strangely (or not), the highlight of this year was the exclusive release of the VAG MDG1 protocol in OBD, compatible with ECUs equipped with TC298 and SPC5777M processors. And we weren't going to stop there: we also introduced datalogging and developed the EDC16 and MED9 bench, requiring an additional cable due to the absence of K-line on the BOOT connector of the AutoTuner.

Mercedes and AutoTuner working on the engine

2021

The story continues.

Our ambition machine had definitely been fired up. In 2021, we closed the gap on the expected classic protocols by adding numerous gearbox protocols, making AutoTuner the primary engine reprogramming tool for our customers. Our community particulary appreciated our solutions such as DCM7.1 in OBD and K-line management on ME7 and EDC15 protocols.

At the same time, the sale of ShifTech Engineering and its centers allowed us to strengthen our R&D efforts, opening new opportunities for chiptuning enthusiasts who wanted to continue the adventure and push back the boundaries with us.

Toyota Yaris ECU reprogrammation

2022

A new direction.

2022 has been marked in many ways, including a change of direction at board level, with the ambition of a complete overhaul of the support service. We also presented exclusive protocols like the Toyota Yaris GR, and cherry on the cake, the (controversial) early access of the Continental Simos 19, sparking lively debates.

Eventually, in line with our initial accessibility commitment, we granted Continental Simos 19 access to all our users. This remains a lasting exclusivity to this day.

2023

Ever more new protocols.

The year 2023 was rich in protocols addition, such as Bosch MSE8.0 or Delco T93, which are still in high demand, as well as the Continental GPEC2A revisited by AutoTuner, offering some of the fastest read and write speeds on the market.

AT One Render 3D

2024

Expanding coverage & launch of AT One

2024 allowed us to close several gaps on older protocols while marking a major step forward in our technical coverage. Among the most important developments were the SID321 Continental and Vitesco ECUs, as well as the EMS3140, EMS3141, EMS3160 and EMS3161. These updates required a considerable effort from our team. 2024 was also the year of the launch of AT One, our AutoTuner personal flasher designed to make our solutions more accessible to end users, officially announced at SEMA 2024.

2025

Massive protocol expansion & Ford 100% OBD

In 2025, AutoTuner clearly accelerated its pace. The release of new protocols across all categories reached a level never seen before. This year also marked the arrival of our first mail-in unlocks, including SID212 and EMS71. But the highlight of 2025 was undoubtedly our major 100% OBD release for recent Ford vehicles, covering both Bosch ECUs, including the latest MDG1 generations, and Vitesco ECUs, notably the SID213.

2026

US Expansion & New OBD exclusivities

2026 represents an important milestone for AutoTuner, with the strengthening of our presence in the United States through a new official importer and the opening of a local mail-in unlock center. This new presence allows us to support the American market more effectively while continuing to expand our coverage of recent vehicles. 2026 will also be marked by the arrival of highly anticipated new protocols, both through mail-in unlock and several 100% OBD exclusives, such as the ASG1, the MG1CS031, and the DQ381 2022+ gearboxes.
